Lubbock, Texas is known as the “hub city” for a variety of reasons, including its plentiful educational, economic, and health care offerings and its thriving tourism industry. Furthermore, the city has much to offer in terms of sports and recreation — especially tennis. Longtime residents and visitors of the city alike can indulge in a variety of quality tennis facilities, taking the chance to hone their skills or simply participate in a friendly pick-up game with friends and family.

Here are two of the most ideal places to play tennis in Lubbock.

Burgess Rushing Tennis Center

4.8 (5) · Tennis Court

Lubbock, TX

(806) 767-3727

Open until 9:00 PM

Burgess Rushing Tennis Center is an ideal tennis center for the whole community. Open year-round, the center offers 16 different lighted courts for attendants, as well as access to lessons, memberships, tournaments, and ball machine rentals. Players can also visit the center’s full-service pro shop to stock up on gear.

Growing up in West Texas, I played tennis every day in Odessa Texas. I was part of the USTA and traveled across Texas as a Junior player (under the age of 18) and was even ranked 14 in the state within the boys 16 category.

Often, the bigger tournaments in west Texas would take place in Lubbock. I have fond memories of battling it out in tournaments until late in the night. The Burgess Rushing Center is easily accessible to any socio/economic group.

Falls Tennis & Athletic Club

4.3 (3) · Gym

Lubbock, TX

(806) 687-6080

Open until 10:00 PM

The Falls Tennis and Athletic Club is a fantastic facility thanks to its service versatility. The center is aimed at numerous different sports and recreational activities — including yoga, swimming, and personal training — but it really shines through its various tennis offerings.

The center is ideal because it is out of the way and is not necessarily accessible to everyone, which allows its facilities to remain cleaned and well maintained.  Most of the people who attend the center are definitely not uppity — I do not know of a tennis player that is — and that is certainly a positive aspect in the spirit of friendly competition.

The center is located on the south side of Lubbock. It includes great indoor courts and a gym.  The Falls also offers child care, which is a huge benefit for parents looking to get in a few rounds of tennis while ensuring their children are in proper care.
